        Multistate Outbreak of Human Salmonella Altona and Salmonella Johannesburg Infections Linked to Chicks and Ducklings

        Salmonella Altona

        Among the persons with reported dates available, illnesses began between February 25, 2011 and July 30, 2011. Infected individuals range in age from less than one year old to 92 years old, and 32% of ill persons are 5 years of age or younger. Fifty-two percent of patients are female. Among the 57 patients with available information, 17 (30%) were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

        Salmonella Johannesburg

        Among the persons with reported dates available, illnesses began between March 19, 2011 and June 28, 2011. Infected individuals range in age from less than one year old to 60 years old, and 74 percent of ill persons are 5 years of age or younger. Fifty-nine percent of patients are female. Among the 21 patients with available information, 8 (38%) were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
