What's included

This page includes statement of standards for respirators offering Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) protections.

For information about specific approval requirements for each respective type of respirator, refer to the appropriate Standard Application Procedure.

42 CFR Part 84

NIOSH approves respirators based on criteria described in 42 CFR Part 84. Respirators offering CBRN protection must also meet criteria described in these Statement of Standards. Together, the regulation and Statement of Standards establish criteria for respirator design, construction, performance, labeling, and testing.

Additional information

See the Fee Schedules and Standard Test Procedures Page for specific standard test procedure files and fee schedules.

Please note that the NIOSH Respirator Approval Program is still transitioning the Standard Test Procedure files to the new NIOSH web template and updating all Standard Application files with new Standard Test Procedure links.

Additionally, the fees associated with CBRN live agent testing are incorrect in the fee tables. The most recent cost for these tests can be found on the Conformity Assessment Notice page.
