Summary

Researchers investigated the impact of COVID-19 on place of death for MND (motor neuron disease) patients and comorbidities in the US. Study researchers analyzed 30,066 MND deaths, (14,562 pre-COVID-19 and 15,504 during COVID-19. They found that MND deaths at home increased during COVID-19.

Additionally, an increase in diabetes mellitus and essential hypertension was observed during COVID-19. The increase in at-home deaths suggests a need for improved home-based care services for MNDs. The increased comorbidities suggest the need for further preventative patient care research and comorbidities management during disasters.
