Collaborative Depression Care Among Latino Patients in Diabetes Disease Management, Los Angeles, 2011–2013

For the participants who were assigned to the usual care group, 569 were screened and 31 met exclusion criteria, leaving 538 eligible. Of these, 54 participants refused or did not complete the baseline assessment, leaving 484 to be enrolled in the study. Of these, 68 participants had some missing data for propensity score calculation, leaving 416 participants to be included in the baseline assessment. At the 6-month interview, 341 participants remained. Of these, 75 were excluded from the analysis (30 were lost to follow-up, 4 declined, 1 died, and 40 were temporarily unavailable).

For the participants who were assigned to the supportive care group, 550 were screened and 26 met exclusion criteria, leaving 524 eligible. Of these, 44 participants refused or did not complete the baseline assessment, leaving 480 to be enrolled in the study. Of these, 19 participants had some missing data for propensity score calculation, leaving 461 participants to be included in the baseline assessment. At the 6-month interview, 380 participants remained. Of these, 81 were excluded from the analysis (44 were lost to follow-up, 7 declined, 1 died, and 29 were temporarily unavailable).

Figure. Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trial (CONSORT) diagram of sample of study participants drawn from type 2 diabetes patients identified in database and clinic records at safety-net clinics where they sought treatment, Los Angeles County, California, 2011–2013. Propensity scores were used to determine the probability of treatment assignment conditional on observed baseline characteristics. Some patients were excluded because they were temporarily unavailable (eg, they were out of the state or country, it was not a good time to talk, their telephone was disconnected).
