Eighty-nine influenza-associated pediatric deaths occurring during the 2008-09 influenza season have been reported. * No measles cases were reported for the current week. ??? Data for meningococcal disease (all serogroups) are available in Table II. §§§ These cases were obtained from state and territorial health departments in response to the pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus infections and include both confirmed and probable cases in addition to those reported to the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS). Because of the volume of cases and the method by which they are being collected, a 5-year weekly average for this disease is not calculated. ??? In 2008, Q fever acute and chronic reporting categories were recognized as a result of revisions to the Q fever case definition. Prior to that time, case counts were not differentiated with respect to acute and chronic Q fever cases. ** No rubella cases were reported for the current week. ???? The figure shows selected notifiable disease reports in United States, with comparison of provisional 4-week totals through July 4, 2009, with historical data. According to the figure, reported cases of giardiasis, acute hepatitis A, acute hepatitis B, measles, mumps, pertussis and meningococcal disease all decreased. Reported cases of acute hepatitis C and legionellosis increased.

* Ratio of current 4-week total to mean of 15 4-week totals (from previous, comparable, and subsequent 4-week periods for the past 5 years). The point where the hatched area begins is based on the mean and two standard deviations of these 4-week totals.
