CDC Director Announces Members of Executive Leadership Team

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Thomas R. Frieden, M.D., M.P.H., announced today seven new members of his leadership team.? Six of the positions being filled are in the Office of the CDC Director while the other is the director of the new Center for Global Health.? The seven join four previously announced appointments.

“I’m pleased to announce these members of CDC’s leadership team who will further strengthen both science and action at CDC,” said CDC Director Dr. Thomas R. Frieden. “Each member comes with hands-on experience in their respective field. They form a superb team committed to strengthening CDC’s public health efforts to reduce illness, disability, and death in this country and around the world.”

The appointments announced today were:

• Donna Garland, Associate Director for Communications
• Harold Jaffe, M.D., Associate Director for Science
• Bill Nichols, Chief Operating Officer

Deputy Directors:

• Robin Ikeda, M.D., Deputy Director, Office of Noncommunicable Diseases, Injury and Environmental Health
• Rima Khabbaz, M.D., Deputy Director, Office of Infectious Diseases
• Stephen Thacker, M.D., Deputy Director, Office of Surveillance, Epidemiology and Laboratory Services

Center Director:

• Kevin De Cock, M.D., Director, Center for Global Health

Previously announced appointments were:

• Ileana Arias, Ph.D., Principal Deputy Director for CDC/ATSDR
• Ursula Bauer, Ph.D., M.P.H., Director, National Center for Chronic Disease and Health Promotion
• Janet Collins, Ph.D., Associate Director for Program
• John Howard, M.D., M.P.H., Director, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
