WHAT:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) 32^nd Annual Diabetes Conference, New Strategies for Changing Times will focus on new strategies for diabetes prevention and control for practitioners, providers, and leaders.? The conference is sponsored by the CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) and features plenary sessions, various lectures, symposia, oral presentations, roundtable discussions, exhibits, and poster sessions on the latest and most innovative advances in diabetes prevention and initiatives.

Importance of Diabetes Advocacy during Changing Times,? presented by Francine Kaufman, M.D., director of the Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Children’s Hospital-Los Angeles, Former president of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and author of the book Diabesity.
Innovative Prevention and Outreach Strategies for the Next Generation presented by Christopher Stokes, the 2009 ADA Youth Advocate and Caitlin Baker, founder of CaitlinB, a healthy lifestyle outreach program for Native American youth.

8:00 a.m. - Plenary Session: TRIAD Study: Financing Diabetes Care in the Era of Cost Containment.? Emmett Keeler, Ph.D., internationally recognized health services researcher, will participate in an expert panel on the latest developments in diabetes statistics and research.

11:30 a.m. - Closing Plenary Session: Two Steps Forward, One Step Back, presented by Ann Albright, Ph.D., R.D., director, DDT. This session will focus on public health improvements and advances in diabetes prevention and control.
