CDC Announces Release of Injury Research Agenda

Who:

CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control is releasing its newly updated CDC Injury Research Agenda 2009-2018. The agenda will guide the direction of our injury research for the coming decade.

What:

Injury is the leading cause of death in the United States in the first four decades of life. The CDC Injury Research Agenda outlines research priorities to prevent injuries and minimize their consequences.

The agenda pinpoints nine areas where additional research can have the greatest impact on preventing injuries and controlling their debilitating effects. The research agenda looks at injuries at home and in communities, injuries occurring during sports, recreation and exercise, traumatic brain injuries, transportation-related injuries, intimate partner violence, sexual violence and child maltreatment, suicidal behaviors, youth violence, and acute care.

The revised Research Agenda expands the 2002 – 2007 CDC Injury Research Agenda and now includes chapters about child maltreatment and traumatic brain injury. It also places increased emphasis on evaluation research, cost studies, and dissemination and translation of research discoveries.

The CDC Injury Research Agenda 2009-2018 will be available online and in hard copy March 5.
