Toby Slusher, BBA, is senior advisor for acquisition management in the Division of Health Informatics and Surveillance (DHIS). He brings extensive experience in informatics services and systems, infrastructure, operations, and security to his work at CDC.
Previously, Mr. Slusher served as acting chief of the Informatics Services Branch in DHIS and acting deputy director of the Division of Informatics Solutions and Operations in the former Public Health Surveillance and Informatics Program Office.
Mr. Slusher has been responsible for enterprise-level, informatics-based services and solutions at CDC, including secure extranet application and service delivery for public health as well as enterprise-level resource management. Mr. Slusher also has been responsible for several cost-savings initiatives, yielding more than 50% program infrastructure cost reductions for several CDC CIOs.
Prior to his experience at CDC, Mr. Slusher worked in the commercial software and systems development fields for Riverside Publishing (part of Houghton-Mifflin). There, he was responsible for architecture, design, implementation, and management of information systems critical for delivering robust, secure on-line testing facilities for secondary and post-secondary educational institutions throughout the United States. In addition, he worked for Sungard Data Systems, where he was responsible for healthcare-oriented enterprise information systems and telecommunications management. He has worked extensively with emerging technologies and their application to healthcare and educational needs in a national context.
Mr. Slusher earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in computer information systems from Georgia State University.
