        Youth Research Cohort- Results and Findings From the 2023 Solicitation of Public Comment

        Federal Register Notice: From April to December 2023, the Program solicited public comments on the proposed four-phase approach to establishing the Youth Research Cohort (YRC) and on best practices, design, and uses of the YRC.

        • This solicitation received 26 responses in total, of which 18 were relevant to the YRC.

        Request for Information with Questions and Answers: Concurrently, NIOSH published a 120-day period to collect public comments on best practices and preferred approaches to assemble a YRC, as well as methods to develop, coordinate, and manage outreach and education strategies.

        • This solicitation received 12 responses total.

        The submissions, in general, provided:

        • Overwhelming support to the initiative and approaches to options development for the Youth Research Cohort;
        • Recommendations to “ensure broad and diverse representation and meaningful involvement of a community and public partner advisors throughout options development;”
        • Clarification/ideas to expand enrollment criteria for participation in Youth Research Cohort;
        • Requests for a YRC that is representative of the population being served and supportive of research involving a broad range of physical and mental health conditions; and
        • Recommendations to make community organization networks and resources available throughout YRC development and enrollment.
